| | e-marking WOODWAY ENGINEERING is the exclusive licensed manufacturer of WHELEN designed equipment for Europe. Woodway carries out and administers all modifications to Whelen product to ensure that it complies with European Regulations. Whelen product not supplied through Woodway will not be approved to the Automotive EMC Directive 95/54/EC and e11 marked and approved for use in Europe.
The Automotive EMC (ElectroMagnetic Compatibility) Directive 95/54/EC is primarily concerned with ensuring that the driver's control of a vehicle is not affected by ElectroMagnetic Interference from electrical/electronic equipment installed in vehicles, both original fit and aftermarket fit.
This Directive has been enacted into the law in Great Britain (England, Wales & Scotland) through the Road Vehicles (Construction & Use) Regulations and in Northern Ireland through similar legislation.
It has been brought to our attention that there are UK based companies supplying Whelen Lights and Sirens via web sites. Many of the products advertised are 'blue' lights, these obviously being targeted at the UK Emergency Services. Some sites are misleading customers into believing that they are associated with either Whelen or Woodway by using domain name links that include 'Whelen' and 'Woodway'. We believe that the Whelen product that is being offered from these sites are not 'e' approved and are therefore not suitable for use in the UK.
UK supplied product that does not originate from Woodway will not carry 'e11' approval. Woodway under no circumstances will repair or service Whelen product that does not show a valid 'e' mark.
We would advise that when purchasing Whelen product that your order clearly states that 'the product should be 'e' marked and labelled accordingly to demonstrate compliance with the Automotive EMC Directive 95/54/EC'. If the product does not have a label with an 'e11' number it is likely that it is a 'grey' import. If you have any doubts about the 'e' marking of any Whelen product please contact Woodway to confirm its validity. Woodway has a number of approved UK distributors.
